Report Finds CO2 Emissions Decreasing With Increased Fuel Economy

An EPA report finds that for the fifth consecutive year, fuel efficiency has increased for new cars and light trucks.  This is the first year that corresponding carbon dioxide emissions have been included in the report, which finds that average carbon dioxide emissions have decreased by 8% while average fuel economy has increased by 9% since 2004.  According to EPA, this marks a return to the carbon dioxide emissions and fuel economy levels of the early 1980s, after a period of increasing emissions and decreasing fuel economy from 1987 through 2004.
