PROGRESS FROM  ILSAC / OIL GF-5 MEETING

• Elemental Sulfur will be 0.6% wt maximum for 10W-30 and 0.5% wt maximum for all other ILSAC viscosity grades

• Sequence VG  Average Engine Sludge (AES) will be 8.0

• Elemental Phosphorous will be 0.08% wt maximum and 0.06% wt minimum

• E-85 Emulsion Retention Test  is to have no WATER separation

• E-85 Panel Rust Test has been withdrawn. The BRT will be used for E-85 rust protection.

STILL UNDER DISCUSSION
• Sequence IIIG Weighted Piston Deposits:  ILSAC proposes 4.5 for GF-5, increased from 3.5 in GF-4

• Sequence VG Oil Screen Clogging:  ILSAC proposes 10%; OIL proposes 15%.  ILSAC to review.

• Sequence VID Test:  Test still under development

• Sequence IIIGB Phosphorous Retention Test:  ESCIT to communicate to Surveillance Panel what ESCIT desires to have implemented into the Sequence IIIG procedure

• ROBO  (a bench test being considered as an alternative to the Sequence IIIGA for aged low temperature pumbability):   remains under development.  ILSAC/OIL wants to see the ROBO test ready by the time the Sequence VID Fuel Economy Test is ready

• TEOST MHT:  Still under discussion

• TEOST 33C:   Still under discussion

• Oil Aeration:  Still under discussion

• New Oil Foam Settling Time:  Still under discussion

• Seals:  Still under discussion

The next ILSAC/OIL meeting is scheduled for September 3rd at 08:30 AM EST at the GM Travel Center at the Detroit Metro Airport.
