Summary Report ASTM PCEOCP VID Matrix Design and Funding (MDF) Subgroup Meeting05/16/2008 A meeting of the ASTM PCEOCP VID Matrix Design and Funding (MDF) Subgroup was held via teleconference on May 16, 2008. The Subgroup recommends to the ASTM PCEOCP Committee how the Precision Matrix for the Sequence VID fuel economy test should be run and how the costs are shared. The results of the teleconference are summarized below. In early April, 2008, The MDF sent a letter to Jim Linden, Chair of the Sequence VID Consortium, to request the Consortium estimate dates for release of the engine test stand design and estimation of Consortium completion. Click here for the response from the Sequence VID Consorium Chair. The ten oils used in the Sequence VID development are acceptable for consideration for Precision Matrix testing and are available in sufficient quantities from the ASTM TMC. The procedure for test stand construction for Precision Matrix Testing has been released. Click here for detailed information. The VID Consortium hopes to release the VID Research Report prior to the PCEOCP meeting scheduled in Vancouver on June 17th The Chair of the ASTM PCEOCP, Thom Smith, reviewed the response to the MDF request of early April. Click here for the response from the PCEOCP Chair. Engine test laboratories have been asked if they wish to participate in the Precision Matrix. The intention is to create a small group within PCEOCP to select the demonstration oil from candidates submitted to TMC. GF-5 demonstration oils were requested of the PCEOCP membership and industry. The MDF still requests input from API BOI/VGRA regarding base oil and viscosity grade read across testing within the Precision Matrix. The MDF reviewed the statisticians Sequence VID Precision Matrix options presentation. The main drivers for the Precision Matrix are the number of test stands, number of laboratories, and number of oils. The MDF needs to clearly define the goals of the Precision Matrix (BOI/VGRA, tie-back to Sequence VIB, GF-5 demonstration oil) to provide final input to the statisticians matrix design. The next teleconference meeting of the MDF Sub-Group will be on June 5th from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. |
