ILSAC/Oil Meeting Summary

01/23/2008

Both ILSAC and OIL agree on the ILSAC GF-5 Needs Statement, as of the January 23, 2008 ILSAC/OIL meeting.   The Needs Statement includes:

  • Improvements in fuel economy and fuel economy retention using the Sequence VID engine test;
  • Protection of emission control systems as per the Sequence IIIG engine test
  • Engine oil robustness.

ILSAC recognized that OIL accepts the Sequence VID for fuel economy, the Sequence IIIG @ 100 hours for emissions system compatibility and the Chrysler emulsion procedure for E85 fuel protection

The GF-5 Precision Matrix for the Sequence VID for fuel economy will possibly start in 2Q 2008.

The timeline of first licensing of GF-5 oils remains as July, 2010.

The ROBO Test for used oil pumpability is in the process of being written in ASTM format.
